Urban Agriculture

Pax Christi Port-au-Prince is working with the youth in Cite Soleil to create a community garden next to our program site.  These youth are transforming what was once a vacant lot filled with garbage and human waste into a place that is now suitable to grow vegetables.  Youth come each Saturday morning to plant, weed, and care for the garden.  They have decorated old tires and utilized them as planters.  The community garden is an ideal setting for the youth and other community members to learn about agriculture, nutrition, and environmentalism.  The food grown in the garden contributes to the resources necessary for the food program and is an example of how Pax Christi Port-au-Prince is serious about sustainability.  We are currently working to expand the size of the garden.
